My bad, it was actually a 512S, not a 348, and it was Mario Andretti instead of Schumaker haha. Bob Rapp, the owner of the LaFerrari (and former owner of the Enzo) allowed Car and Driver Magazine to drive his car after Ferrari, in its traditional form, refused to allow any automotive journalists to drive any press vehicles.

"[Rapp has] owned 23 [Ferraris], including the flowing 512S in which Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx, and Arturo Merzario finished third at the 1970 Daytona 24 Hours. Rapp vintage-raced it for 18 years."

"...Rapp submitted the requisite application to Ferrari [for the Enzo] and promptly sold his entire car collection. After some haggling and a few stressful cell-phone calls, his Enzo landed at Foreign Cars Italia in Greensboro, North Carolina, in March..."

Here are a couple articles about it. The last link is a picture that was posted on here a long time ago of his Enzo.

Anyway, there's a 288 GTO in Burlington???? Holy moly. The west side of Burlington is actually pretty nice (certainly miles nicer than you'd expect after seeing the dumpy parts along I-40/I-85) but I never would have guessed there was something of that magnitude in the area. I did see a blue Aventador in that area heading towards Greensboro, but unfortunately I was unable to get any pics because I was driving in the opposite direction, and I suspect it was just passing through. I'm curious how you know about all these exclusive Ferraris?

Oh, and I have learned that there is a Brabus B63S-700 6x6 in the Charlotte area.

I've always heard there was a Ferrari Market Letter article on him selling everything to buy the Enzo, but I've never been able to find it. Either way, it was a terrible investment, because it sold at the bottom of the market and the other cars are worth so much now too. The Enzo was yellow with cuoio interior - it was actually supposed to be tan, but was ordered wrong. That car is in AZ now and has been spotted on this site in the last year or two.

I'd be really curious to know more about the 348 you mention - do you know anything else about it?

There was a 288 GTO in the late 2000s in Charlotte - same guy with the Straman NART owned it. There's one in Burlington now (bought new), which is probably the most unique of the 288s in existence. I know the yellow F50 you're talking about, and there's a red one registered in the same area. The Asheville area has a lot of great cars too, because so many retirees from Florida spend half the year there now.

There's a TDF blue 275 owned by someone in the Durham area. I'm not sure of the exact model, but it's a coupe, not a spider. He must have balls of steel because I've heard it's worth well into seven figures and yet he still drives it around fairly regularly (for a car of its worth, at least). There's apparently a red F40 in the Raleigh area, but I've never seen it, and in Greensboro there's a red LaFerrari. The owner of the LaFerrari has owned numerous rare Ferraris throughout his life, and in 2002 sold his entire Ferrari collection (which I believe included a 348 special edition that had been race by Michael Schumaker) for the first production Enzo, which was yellow with a tan interior. I heard it was the only one produced in that particular spec. I think there may have been a red Enzo in Charlotte at one point, but I haven't heard anything about it in a very long time so I doubt it's still in the area. I think there was a 288 GTO in Charlotte as well, but I'm not sure if it's still around either. I'm not sure if it was legit or just a 308 with a body kit though. In the Anderson area of South Carolina (southwest of Greenville), there's a family who owns a red F40, a 365 GTB/4, and a 512 BBi, and in the Charleston area there's a family with a yellow F50 as well as some other Ferraris.

I saw the authentic red one. That's definitely sad...hope this alloy-bodied 275 stays in NC as it's such an incredible find.

There were two NART spiders in NC for a while. The first was a Straman conversion (dark blue), so technically not a real example, but in NC for a while. A broker from Chapel Hill sold it to a developer in Charlotte who held on to it for a year or two sometime around 2006-2007. Not sure where it went after that.

The other car was a one-owner and authentic NART Spider, probably the best of the set at this point, and it was based out of Lexington and sold in 2013 at Pebble. Sorry to see it go, because NC has a great history of unique vintage Ferraris, but it's unfortunately dwindled significantly the past 20 years.

@lukaku145 lol check my list in the 'What did you see today?' forum. Technically the 275 Spyders weren't real spots (I saw them drive out of the show), but hey, two 275 Spyders still ain't bad lol.

I actually saw a couple 275 Spyders today, but I wasn't sure if they were real (I was at the Cavallino Classic today, a CRAZY day of Ferrari spotting and other exotic car spotting around Palm Beach).

It was crazy man. Such a cool experience, getting to be up close and personal with one of those cars. And that's a great idea and even greater timing - I'm 2 away from my 250th upload! Glad you suggested that before I uploaded something else. I had no idea I was by a benchmark but that made me go and check.

Dude that's insane! I've gotten to sit in a couple of F430 Spiders, but I've never gotten a ride in one. The couple model is actually one of my all-time favorite Ferraris (along with the 550 and F40). Anyway, as far as posting the NART on here, people have posted driveway/garage spots on here before, and it's so rare that I doubt anyone would really have much of an objection otherwise. Maybe save it for a milestone upload or something like that.

Yep! They are from a very long time ago unfortunately when my camera was a 2010 iPod touch and I wasn't good at taking photos yet. I am good friends with the goddaughter of the owner's son so me and my brother got to go to their estate and see the Nart Spider before it was auctioned off, and I got to go on a 140-mph top down ride in their F430. I was never sure if I would be allowed to upload them here or not, it was stored in a small Ferrari-decorated room in their plane hangar. Not sure if I'll ever see a car that rare and beautiful again. Do you think it counts as a spot?

Wish I knew where the property is, but I really have no clue. There have been some pretty cool barn finds in NC over the years though. It seems like a while back, someone found a 275GTB/4 NART Spider (one of just 10 produced) in eastern NC, but I can't find any stories about it. Maybe I'm getting it confused with the one that used to belong to a family in the Lexington, NC area, who are notable for auctioning their N.A.R.T. Spider off for $27.5M a few years ago.

Nevermind just looked it up and saw that it was a red one - that's absolutely insane! I wonder how many million+ barn finds are still out there. Do you know exactly where it is and whether the cars are still there or not? I live really close to myers park.

Wait do you know what color the Cobra is? I know of a real Shelby Cobra in Charlotte, it's the first car photo I've ever taken!

My best friend who I saw it with saw the same car 6 weeks ago drive past his house and neither of us had since it since back when I took that photo (real date should be 2011 or 12). The owner let us sit in it and was really nice.

Thanks guys! I've seen a couple of pretty insane exotics tucked away on the other side of the mall. I would suspect it's the same Mulsanne that the one your dad sees, but it's Charlotte so you never know. Also, not sure if you've heard yet, but the city of Charlotte condemned a house and garage in Myers Park recently, and when they went to see what kind of stuff was in the garage, they stumbled upon a legit Shelby Cobra 428 and an aluminum-bodied Ferrari 275 GTB, as well as a Triumph and a Morgan. Keep your eyes out for transporter trucks with some of those on the back of them.

My dad works in the same building as this (or an identical Mulsanne). I haven't gotten to see it while it's there yet tho.
