A Special Message from ExoticSpotter

Jul 13, 2012

ExoticSpotter.com has been neglected for a long time. Yet despite this, an awesome community has grown. We're proud to have passionate spotters like yourself who share a deep love of exotic cars, and it's time that we give you guys the site that you deserve.

Over the next few months, you will be seeing many improvements. We plan to release a new design that will display photos in larger sizes with better usability. We're also working on several new features, including improved profile pages, better social features, comment alerts, discussion forums, improved point system, this blog, and much more.

We're also in the process of implementing a new moderation system which will seperate "true" spottings from those that don't qualify. Many of you have questions as to what constitutes a true spotting, so here is our official stance:

True Spottings:
  • Photo must be taken on public roads, highways, or parking spots, and
  • Photographer must have no prior knowledge that the vehicle would be in that location.
Not True Spottings:
  • Photos from Car Shows (including parking lot of car shows)
  • Photos from Car Club Meetings
  • Photos from the start or end of a Car Rally (Gumball 3000)
  • Photos at or near an Exotic Car Dealership
  • Photos taken in private garage or shop
  • Photos of friend's or neighbor's cars
  • Photos from a photo shoot
  • Photos taken in known locations where exotics are always parked (certain hotels, in front of certain stores, etc)
NOTE: If a photo looks suspicious, you need to provide a detailed description of how you spotted the car. If you provide no details, the photo will not qualify as a true spotting.
The Following May Qualify as True Spottings:
  • Spotting an exotic car while it's taking part in a Rally, (if you didn't know about the Rally)
  • Spotting an exotic car on the streets near a car show (not directly outside the show)

Here's a simple way to look at it: Exotic spotting is like wild bird spotting. If you take a photo of a bird at the zoo, that is not a real spotting. (that's like taking a photo at a car show).

A true exotic spotting is one where you have no idea if an exotic car will be there. Photos of exotic cars parked in front of certain hotels don't count as real spottings, because there's a reasonable expectation that they will be there.

This being said, it doesn't mean we won't feature photos that are not true spottings. Any photo of an exotic car on public roads will qualify to be on the site, but true spottings will receive higher points and awards.

In order to implement this new moderation system, we will need volunteers to go through the archives and mark photos accordingly. These volunteers will also moderate new photos, to make sure only the best ones are "featured". We will be providing admin tools to make tasks easier.

If you're interested in volunteering as a moderator, please email us. We'd also like to hear your ideas for new features or changes you'd like to see to the site. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far, we look forward to taking the site to the next level. Please leave your comments below.

@Zankes: Maybe in your country an M3 or a TTRS are cheap and common car, but where I live (in Oderzo, Veneto) I've only see 2/3 M3 and 2 TTRS so in my country are very rare and if I see one I want to share that car with all the members of this site. Ok an M3 isn't exotic like a Ferrari but is still a good spot! Example: if a person live in a country like Argentina or South America were is very very rare find a Ferrari or a Lamborghini etc. and he see an Audi TTRS or an S5 isn't he free to upload a picture?? If I don't like or I don't care a picture I don't put Like, instead you always write profanitys and insults in the comment!!! The cars are exotics in relation at the country were they are spotted. It's like the '56 Fiat 500, here in Italy I see them every day on the streets, but maybe in U.S.A are pretty rare and nice car!
The moral is: No one should judge!! also because you're always the person who start on-line fights with the other members. You, are free to comment a picture or asking something, but you don't criticize every photos and you don't insult other member only because they've upload a picture of a car wich you think isn't exotic! This is a great site, but we don't want trash in the comment!
Excuse my comment, but I am very tired to see in every photos insults and quarrels.
Also sorry if I've do some grammatical mistake, but I don't speak very well english. -Umberto-

I think this site needs some serious cleanup on car pictures! Back in the days this site had only pure exotics which is this sites name exoticspotter not garbagespotter. But nowadays we have other category ruined, because there is a lot garbage cars out there in the category and a lot non exotic cars are posted in this site and people think that they are rare like the TTRS and M3.... Gregg, can we please keep this site as pure exotic car spotting rather than garbage spotting site...?

I really really want an other category under each brand. I know it wont be possible to put every model for each brand so i think thats probably the best choice for now and as more categories are added the others categories will empty out.

Can't we make a section under which gives info on the cars on the page like for instance if I go to the Ferrari category at the bottom of the page you can say it was founded in 19something by Enzo Ferrari and so forth and if I go to let's say testarossa you can say it was produced from 84 to 92 and there was 7100 produced and unveiled in Paris? Just an idea

I like the idea of getting a better profile. Also get more catagories for classic cars. I would like to upload photos from mobile phones. Thanks

I think the gts should be featured but not the standard M3, I also think that if there isn't the choice of car model that you've posted than you should be able to request the name of the car spotted to the admins/moderators so that they can change the title of the photo, than it doesn't matter too much if the option is there or not.
PEACE

When there are moderators in the future, they should be able to close comments on photos where people are arguing so nobody else can leave a comment OR make it so the certain users who are fighting can't leave a comment on the photo or even temporarily can't comment on any photo for a period of time. I'm pretty sure I emailed this to gregg already, not sure.
