Ashoor, Kudos to you for being willing to consider other spotters' points of view & embracing the ones that seem relevant to you. As we all talk with each other, & listen to each other, we are more likely to discover a better way of doing things here on ES. Your stature here is matched by precious few. You are justly admired, a great spotter/photographer, a leader, & can be very influential towards motivating us all towards a better experience on ES. It's noteworthy how few user names are actually accurate descriptions of their owners. Thanks.
@ King AM: Your efforts will be most appreciated, and I will do my best to balance my negativity with some friendlier posts in the future. I admire your willingness to be open-minded to other perspectives.
@ointmentapyntmnt and @fasteppy: Both of you do bring up good points and I understand this spot is nowhere near in the wild or 100% legit plus I respect both of your opinions as well. Since most cars at Car Week stay at hotels that's one of the places spotters would go to, but I also see the point that it's a lazy route to take because there's barely effort being made besides driving to them unlike looking for exotics on the streets that show up all of the sudden.
@ointmentapyntmnt: It's always good to encourage truly legit spots and more close monitoring of them and I have nothing against that. I will also do my best to make wise decisions before posting a picture and not be lazy next time. Car Week is without a doubt fun, but there are always limits to what can and cannot be posted.
I love the ES community because there are other car lovers out there like myself sharing their photos while but if you guys want me to post more truly legit spots than I will do exactly that because I wholeheartedly respect that and it's a sign of encouraging better behavior which I support.
I feel it incumbent upon me to opine here. I must back Ep in regard to a hope for greater action on the part of the mods. I also agree that users should not support these frivolous spots. King AM has taken the typical route of stating the rules and absence of moderation to indicate the legitimacy of this spot, which seems irrelevant. Ep's comment indicates that he is of the mindset (and so am I and many others), that this post is lousy. He suggests that we can act as leaders, and choose not to post feeble spots. @King AM, I hope that you choose to move away from these types of posts. Don't bother telling me it's legit, we've already had that discussion. So R8Lover, do your best to hear our frustrations. King AM, please stop. Ep, we must do our part to counter the positive reinforcement of Likes and Favorites with a barrage of negativity and criticism towards those who continue to neglect their blinkers as they navigate through the proverbial streets of ES. I have been making an effort to find spots that I find valid and desirable and offering praise, Likes and Favorites. I will also try to use less offensive language, although the last cr*p I fell douche out of a sh*t. We all have work to do.
@r8lover. Thank you for your conscientious & explanatory post. 1) So you were likely there when this photo was taken? So? Do you, a representative of the rules, think this is a legit spot? The sign says "Just wait a second, find Bugs here"?? 2) '...people all up in arms declaring this is a totally legit spot'. Decision makers make decisions. Some will be popular, some not. Re-enforced by clear, simple rules should make this easier than it is. Not easy, just easier. Get used to disappointing people. I've been disappointed by mods' decisions, so what? Many times I've heard said about leadership, Just make a decision, you can't do nothing, right or wrong, just make a decision. 3) I think we all bear with you. Bearing with you implies better is coming. I expect improvement for bearing with you. Easier rules to follow, better enforcement, more mods. There are the equivalent of 2 full time mods for nearly 13,000 spotters. That's a lot of material, granted there must be a majority of viewers, far fewer participants, & still far fewer spotters in need of action, assistance, reminders, or penalties. Why are there not more moderators? No wonder I have such low expectations of the seldom existent mods. 4) Your post reminds me of something I realize from time to time, but never mentioned. Us spotters share the responsibility for maintaining order with the mods/ maybe 50/50. Just as each citizen cannot have his own policeman...the police are there to remind us that we are also responsible, that we need to police ourselves. Every time an illegal photo, or a photo of an illegal car, or inappropriate language is L/F 'ed we are the chickens voting for Colonel Sanders. A L/F or praise for garbage is encouragement to continue. Each of us is responsible for our vote & it's implied endorsement. Both the good that it does, and the bad that it allows. I'm not talking about subjective decisions. Talking about the obvious. Today I saw the 3rd photo of the same car posted. By a spotter who has already been chastised and noted for this. With a bunch of likes?!?!?! Impunity!! That's your fault for leaving it up, & our fault for voting for it.
Ashoor. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you. I had no idea this was car week. What set me off were the signs behind the Bugs. What would one expect to find parked in front of these signs? Am I the only one who noticed the signs? All anyone would have to do is wait. Where can I find an F12? Oh, just look for the signs. As I wrote, if the mods let this stand more power to you. I don't think you broke any rules, I'm calling attention to the chaotic state of the rules & their interpretation. The rules seem to be open to wild & inconsistent interpretation. And the mods seem to have no standards or convictions. It's difficult to have them under these circumstances. I would not want to be a mod. Half-spots, semi-spots, foto shoot-spots, underpants spots. Everything seems to be negotiable...& everybody seems to be negotiating. I have a proposal: drop all this rule shaving and parsing. It's not helping. Have two spotting categories. 1) an Open Division. No rules, everything counts & is worth the same points. & 2) Agreed upon rules ENFORCED. I kinda like most of the existing rules. They seem to be ignored for the most part, just suggestions, really, not religiously observed. Kinda like double divisions for the Olympics. A drug division, & a clean division. Take your choice. What do you think, Ashoor? Problem or not? If yes, what to do? If not, carry on.
@fasteppy: This was not a car show or any type of event. It was actually a group of exotic cars lined up at the hotel. There was a few rallies going on during car week but I never followed them all the way to a hotel for example. I understand your point about this not being a true spot because Car Week is guaranteed to be full of exotics but It is not an illegal spot since this place is not a dealership/show/rally. Other car spotters who went there also posted pictures of the other cars at this same location but none of our pictures were deleted which means they do count as legit. I'm not the moderator but to be honest the admins would've removed the photos not long after they were uploaded
.
Is this car spotting? Really? Try car waiting. Or car sniping. The most blatant example of cr*ppy rules, no rules, or BS enforcement of rules. Nothing personal, Ashoor. Really. If mods let this stand more power to you. Or you could be a leader: post it & expose it.
