So long as you can choose the exposure mode on your camera, your camera oughta be able to do the job. You need to think about acquiring an inexpensive tripod kit (kit means tripod & head together). Manfrotto is a good brand. @$200.00 USD to $60.00 USD, depending on the weight of your camera/lens, your preference, and budget. And get a cable release. I leave an extra tripod & head in the trunk of my car for night shots. Now all I need to do is bring my small, dedicated camera with me. Brilliant, huh?

Exactly! I'd rather to take a picture on my phone, makes uploading and editing soo much easier! Plus my dslr is useless in the dark! (Wrong lense)
