They've used the term "Shooting Brake" on Top Gear before, so it isn't just in the US where it is said. The term really refers to a "2+2 Estate" as they said on Top Gear. Cars that would fall into this category would be the Bentley Flying Star, BMW Z3M Coupe, Volvo P1800ES and the Ferrari FF. They are not really classified as hatchbacks due to the fact that they are lower and sleeker. I like them, but they are rare and typically a hit or miss with the designs.
An "estate wagon" is really just saying the same thing, as "estate" is just another word for "wagon" or "station wagon."
