I can somewhat see why they made it. Jeremy did a stupid thing and disciplinary action needed to be taken.
However, there were much better ways of handling this. The BBC has essentially just caused themselves to lose large amounts of money and viewers over this decision. It's been estimated that Top Gear makes the BBC $225 million in revenue, and I'm sure the massive drop in viewership from just one or all three stars leaving will bring them to lose a lot of that money. A better way of handling it really would have been a fine, apology, lecture, and then move past it.
BBC can go disappear. Clarkson's an oaf, we all know that. He punches a man in the face, so what? Fine him a fiver and move on with your life. Bring back TG!
