There have been many times when I have seen the back of an Aston Martin round a city street as soon as I have time to get my camera out or I return to a parking lot to take a picture of a sweet Ferrari and it's gone. These instances of near-miss situations can be very stressful for a yearning carspotter such as I. Please help.
Lol nothing you can do. We've all missed what would be incredible shots. I was in NYC once and a 458 was screaming by just a few seconds after I put my camera away and, of course, it had green lights straight for like 10 blocks. You didn't want to be talking to me for the next couple hours after that. My most annoying miss was a LFA Nurburgring edition which I saw for a brief second and then proceeded to search the entire town for.. to no avail. Some people see exotics left and right when they walk out the door while others, like me, have to struggle. It pays off though when you pull through and finally spot something and take a cool shot and get rewarded for it, it's what keeps people on this website.

Exactly.
We all have those annoying misses but as long as you keep searching, I guarantee you will find something amazing and manage to get good photos. I know there are some fantastically expensive cars in my state (One-77, LFA's, XJ220's, Old Bugattis etc) that I haven't spotted yet, but I know that if I keep searching I will eventually find them.
Oh y'all complain, but none of you missed a prototype Hurucan and Huayra driven by Mr. Pagani in the same day. But seriously, everyone misses these spots, or they come out too blurry to post. Just focus on the ones you have!
I still can't get over the fact that I've seen a Spyker c8, miura, 599 GTO, Carrera GT, Ferrari Daytona, and a Diablo SV all on the road with access for an easy photo but never wanted to take a pic of any of them because it was before I even took pictures of exotics.
For me, I just think about the future and how I hopefully will see something at its level soon to make up for it! Just this summer, I missed my first ever Maybach and it was a beautiful 2-tone. I also left my phone/camera in the car and 5 minutes later I saw an amazingly loud SA Aperta! I also have heard about times where I almost went car spotting but didn't and missed seeing Maybachs, a Bugatti or even a Pagani on display! You really just have to think about what you will see in the future.
This happens to me a lot as well. Ones I hate the most are the ones on the other side of the freeway.
Sometimes, though, I think to myself, "do I really only want to see these cars to get pictures of them?". It's still kinda worth seeing them IMO, as long as you at least get a good look at them.
