They want to increase their sales. Companies are allowed to have more than one four door car; they're simply expanding their market. The Ghibli is half the price of the Quattroporte, and I think I'm right in saying that it is about a foot shorter in size comparison. The Quattroporte is the size of a BMW 7 Series now, while the Ghibli is the size of a 5 Series. The Ghibli is meant to be a sportier, better handling car, while the Quattroporte is more for being a large luxury barge but it still handles well. Saying that they having two similar bodystyles is entirely irrelevant. That's like saying Ferrari is stupid to have the FF and the California, because they're both two door, four seaters (taking the convertible part out of the picture).
