Hey Sam, I got the D3300 today. I also bought a polarizer, but all they had at Best Buy was an $11 Rocketfish. Is that decent?

The camera or the polarizer?

Because the D3300 is supossed to be much better than the D3200 so that was a good choice. How much'd it cost?

The polarizer, it'll do what you need it to i guess. Definitely not as well as a Hoya but it'll be decent for now. And much better than the point and shoot without a polarizer you used to be using. I was talking to a professional photographer today and he said to take off the polarizer if i'm shooting something moving and only use it on still cars but i don't entirely know about that. I think the photos look much better with the polarizer, but he was correct in saying it takes 2 F-Stops off the light getting to the sensor and would help with the blur i've been facing recently.

I'd still say to get a Hoya HD off Ebay though someday if you ever have about $45 to spend and you want something nice for your camera. Does the same thing as your cheap one but slightly better, easier to clean, harder to scratch, and better protection to your lens.

I got the camera on sale for $600. I'm on a 12 month payment plan with $0 down so that's how I afforded it lol. And thanks for the tips. I'm a little confused by that f-stop blur thing you were saying though.

And once I get some more money, I'll definitely get the Hoya.

Any polarizer takes away 2 F-Stops of light meaning the shutter speed slows down and the ISO goes up. But you get the positive of rainbow polarized headlights and much less reflections. He was telling me to take off my polarizer when shooting moving objects (or moving myself) and use it mainly at car shows and parked cars.

But anyways, $600's a pretty good price. What lens did it come with?

I'm going to have a lot of questions as I learn to use this, so I appreciate your help. I've barely began to use it, but first thing I noticed is the VR switch on the lens. I know it means vibration reduction, so should I keep that on all the time to prevent blurry photos?

I'd keep it on when you're spotting but turn it off if you put the camera on a tripod. It makes the photos blurry on a tripod.

Ok, well let me know if you ever get to go again. I think you are the only active local ES member who I haven't met.

I haven't met any member on here (that i know of). I saw SDJ at RIAS but didn't know it was him at the time so didn't talk to him. And i've converted a lot of people i've met into spotters as well but i don't think any post on here.

I'll tell you next time i go to a show though.
