Kenny, do you really think that the automotive media gives Nissan a pass for rebadging a Pathfinder as an Infiniti QX60, or for Toyota slapping a couple of Lexus badges on the Camry? Acura in particular gets almost no respect from anyone because all its cars - except the NSX - are just rebadged Hondas.
The profit margins on performance luxury SUVs are INSANE, and I can tell you right now that, no matter how unpure the Urus is, Lamborghini will sell every one it can make. It will become the best-selling Lamborghini by a mile over the Huracan, and the company could quickly and easily recoup whatever R&D costs it incurred in developing an all-new vehicle instead of trading brand equity for a few quick bucks.
Thank you everyone! Means a lot. I almost missed it actually. It might be hard to believe but it blended in pretty well among other SUV’s parked on the same street and didn’t really stand out in particular, especially in this color. I too wish it was more unique and more true to the Lamborghini brand and less corporate VW, but I guess it all comes down to production and sales. Hate it or love it, I think these will sell like hotcakes
To clarify my point, I was hoping for more of a "true" Lamborghini. Not something that shares its platform with three other SUVs and is powered by an engine that is eerily-similar to another corporate engine (no matter what Lambo says, I have a hard time they would build a completely new 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 when they already have access to a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 from VW). It's just a badge-engineered, corporate parts bin special, sort of like the Bentayga, but at least the Bentley has a Bentley-specific engine.
I agree with Kenny on the Ferrari SUV. It'd probably be based on the GTC4 or maybe some all new design. But I am looking forward to when they finally build one.
A great color on a disappointing, underwhelming car.
Also, @Gnasher I believe that @Mazdafreak is intending/was hoping for a variant of the Lamborghini Estoque concept released not long ago. Frankly, I was hoping for a variant of it too. That would be, in essence, a four-door Aventador. (lol 'Aventafourdor')
And, @Mazdafreak, I am praying every night that Ferrari does not make an SUV. That will absolutely kill the brand's heritage and meaning if you ask me. As others have said, at least Lamborghini has previously made an SUV.
Of course this is on a VW platform (Bentley, Porsche, Audi) but if anyone was expecting, ahem....."a jacked up Aventador with four doors" they must live on a different planet.
Massively underwhelming for a Lambo. Not only was it toned down a lot from the 2012 Urus concept, but it's really just an Audi Q7 with a with a different engine. Feels like it's more of a fashion statement than anything else, and that Lambo is selling an SUV it just because everyone else is :(
An unfortunate side effect is that the bar has been set pretty low for Ferrari. If this had turned out to be a jacked-up Aventador with four doors and its naturally-aspirated V12 (not a corporate VW twin-turbo V8), it would be pretty insane, but I view this as a status symbol, not a legit Lambo.
