But then I'd still end up with a Nissan that, IMO, looks less sporty than any of their Z cars and requires no driving skill other than go, stop, and turn. And I'd have spent over $200k on it; talk about fail.
I'm just not in the GTR fan club and never will be.
@qcraimir I you have the money for an LFA and considered buying it, you could save 300 grand and buy a GT-R obviously. And you are right with the statement about after 1/4 mile the LFA would win, but if you put 140mm turbos in the GT-r, put a fast intake and just change maybe the exhaust the GT-r will beat that LFA no problem. If you saved that 300 grand by not buying the LFA you can put another 100,000-150,000 into the GT-R and it will be quicker than a Veyron and you would still save 200,000-150,000.
Davis313, the GTR is so quick because, on top of its AWD traction and launch control programming, it also has incredibly short gearing in its first 3 or 4 gears. But after about 125 mph, it starts to "struggle" compared to its competition with similar power but better aerodynamics and gearing, etc.
Also, while the GTR may beat the LFA to 60, look at both of their speeds and times to speeds after that, especially after 100. Once traction becomes a non-issue, the LFA starts gaining ground on the GTR, and past the 1/4 mile, really starts to reel it in. They may be close in the 1/4 mile, but from a rolling start or say a drag race in the standing mile, the LFA is the quicker car. Comparing the 1/4 mile speeds of the GTR and cars with similar power, the GTR's competition posts higher trap speeds, suggesting that while they may not have the launch of the GTR, they have the top end that it lacks.
The GTR's advantage is all in its launching capabilities and computer programming.
While the GTR may be nearly the same performance for far less money, it's also a far more boring car. It doesn't look all that special, it sounds like a high-powered sewing machine, and it does all the driving for you. For a "driver's car", the driver is incredibly disconnected.
The LFA, on the other hand, is low, wide, sleek and sexy, as a supercar should be. It also has one of THE most intoxicating soundtracks of any car, ever. It's a far more engaging driving experience, is one of the most well-crafted cars ever made, and then there's the whole "exclusivity" thing, which I personally could care less about, but that's what a lot of people pay this kind of money for.
Yes, the LFA costs a ridiculous amount of money for a Lexus or even for any car with its kind of performance. But, me personally, if I had the money and had to choose between this or saving $300K and going with a GTR, I'd go straight to the LFA and wouldn't even give the GTR a second thought.
Thanks everybody for your comments, they are greatly appreciated.
RicoLovely, There are so many excellent spotters in Atlanta such as yourself. If your interested, PM me and I'll give you a link so you can read up on them.
$375,875 is a lot for a car that gets worse performance than a car a little bit more than half the price.(458 italia) It is a great looking and sounding car, but it is EXTREMELY over priced. I mean it's almost as much as an Aventador and with that you get twice the car. I love the car and spot, but way too much money for the LFA.
