The tape always looks funny on cars, I've seen some Vettes with tape but that's it.

Yea definitely not paint. You can see the edges of the tape. And I have seen tons of people do this. Plus 2 friends of mine do that when going on a long drive.

You know that painters tape is just to protect the car from rock chips right? A lot of car guys do that when going to a meet or something far away. The painters tape peels off without hurting the clear coat or even stripping the wax.
