Yeah, supposedly they require them basically so that since so many people ignore that law the cops have a reason to stop you and make sure you aren't doing anything. Also so that they can run your plate from across an intersection and stuff.
Brendon they're only required in some states. North and South Carolina do not require them.
What annoys me is why they are there in the first place. Police aren't going to be following you by driving in front of your car, and you likely aren't going to be speeding away from a bank robbery in reverse lol.
