silvawraith2:
I have never driven the Ghost, and I did not know that the interior quality was as bad as you describe. In the pre 2003 models the ventilation unit was made of pure metal and it was very heavy. Most owners loved them, but I fear that the buyers of the newer cars dont know that these parts used to be metal.
Hm. Interesting to hear your opinions @silvawraith2 and @Spotty.
Ironically, I have not studied (thoroughly) anything before the 2003-present RRs, so I can't give a complete, well justified opinion of the RRs prior to this date. However, I think, while perhaps the qualities of the cars are poorer (just look at the depreciation!), the designs are very appealing to me. Just my opinion, but some RRs in the 80s and 90s were sort of boring looking. But, like you said @silvawraith2, they were produced to be "subtle" and contain "grace." And I would definitely agree that those two adjectives certainly described the RRs prior to BMW's acquisition of RR.
Yet, at the same time, the new RRs (2003-present) seem to have a grand appearance with their massive front ends and simple body lines. But, I would agree that the "grace" and especially the "subtle" features are no longer with the brand. They seem to scream "look at me, I'm livin' large and you're not haha." The RRs before 2003 looked so subtle, they looked almost like a Lincoln towncar!
As a final point, I do believe that the new Ghost should have been named the Silver Ghost, or at least those with the silver accent (stainless steel?) down the middle of the hood.
I do understand that some will think that the Phantom is a bit over the top (even though I like it), but I think that the Ghost is a good successor for the Silver Shadow/Spirit/Seraph, (even though I would like that it was named Silver Ghost).
